DPI Victoria Food Roadmap

The State of Victoria has strong capacity to supply the market across major agrifood categories.

This project was undertaken for the Department of Primary Industries in Victoria to provide a factual picture of Victoria’s food supply, based on supply chain volume and value data, and to facilitate a better understanding of how food moves in Victoria.

The work:

  • Identifies the main food supply chains in Victoria and the major food categories entering these food supply chains;
  • Identifies the geographical sources (including interstate and international imports and differences in regions across Victoria) of the major food categories and the various distribution channels for these food categories in Victoria through to the consumer;
  • Presents a diagrammatic and quantitative representation of food supply chains in Victoria for each of the major food categories;
  • Identifies the principal markets for Victorian-produced food; and
  • Identifies and outlines the implications of pressure points in Victoria’s food supply chains.

Our FOODmap methodology was extended to map and measure major sc piccategories at a state level which included meat, seafood, poultry, eggs, dairy, fruit & veg, wine and grains.

The report provides an assessment of the relative risks to the domestic supply of each major food sector based on our assessment methodology which takes account of current food supply chains, trade flows and consumption.

This framework provides the basis for future projections of Victoria’s food supply chains.
