We have completed a large project for a supplier of inputs and services to a number of stages of fresh food supply chains, including meat protein and fresh fruit& vegetables.
The objectives of the project were:
- To evaluate the size, rates of growth and the future potential trends in fresh food sub-segments (in volume & value terms)
- To map and quantify the channels to market, and the key value chain participants.
- To determine the buying needs/behaviour affecting their products and services.
- To identify the opportunities to capture increased share of relevant markets.
The major steps in this work conducted with a client team within a tight timeframe - inform decision-making processes - included:
- Mapping and assessing the volume and value in nominated categories
- Identifying key food market trends and translating their impact on the market for our client.
- Defining estimated market shares held by our client and apparent opportunities for growth.
- Identifying key influencers of supply chain requirements and their primary needs
- Developing a tool to allow market estimation on a regular interval based on key assumption variation
- Identifying and prioritising growth opportunities across matrix of degree of difficulty and scope to add value
The work has been used as a platform for the direction of market and product development initiatives.
